Cormorant’s Rest

A pastel painting of Metung

My passion for boats

I had never been to Metung before. On the rare occasion my former partner and I took a short holiday, I always had the desire to be close to the water and if at all possible boats.

I have often wondered if I am in fact descended from a long line of sailors.

The house we rented had expansive water views and I could watch the boats sail or chug past.

In our travels, I discovered the lovely Chinaman’s Creek with its wonderful assortment of boats and multitude of water birds.

It has been the inspiration for several of my paintings thus far and the boat in this painting is one  that really captured my imagination.

As I stood there taking photos from various angles and aspects, a cormorant flew down onto the bow rail and spread out its wings to dry.
