A Pastel Painting of Hastings Marina

Yachts just made for pastels

It was a warm, sunny day, perfect for a drive to Hastings and a stroll along the pier – camera in hand.

As I strolled along admiring the beautiful boats moored side by side, I was struck by their colours and mirror like reflections in the water. I knew right then this a scene I wanted to paint.

Some time later a friend of mine took a handful of my art cards to his work. He was showing them around, when one of his colleagues burst out excitedly ‘That’s my yacht!’ pointing to the boat with the white hull.

He subsequently bought the original painting and commissioned me to paint another, specifically of his own yacht.

That painting became ‘Conway Lass.’
