The Mornington Peninsula in pastel
The wonderful and charming bathing boxes that are dotted around Port Phillip Bay and Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula have long captured my imagination.
They are both quaint and colourful, while each one holds generations of family stories and secrets between its walls.
Bathing boxes add an entirely new and unique dimension to the beachscape. They are a living history and a delightful testament to a bygone era. What’s more they happily seem to lend themselves to being reproduced and perhaps re-imagined in pastel art.
Here on the peninsula, the style, design and colour schemes of our bathing boxes are unique to this particular area and I find it fascinating to study the subtle differences to bathing boxes from other parts of the world.
It’s not hard for anyone to see that I have a great love for these delightful buildings, as I have featured bathing boxes in a number of my pastel paintings, art prints and art cards.
I sincerely hope it is a passion that I can share with any number of others.
